A Bespoke Process Built Around Craftsmanship, Precision and Collaboration

Phase 1: Initial Consultation & Design Direction

Every bespoke commission begins with a conversation.

• Enquiry & Consultation: We take time to understand your ideas, design preferences, practical requirements, budget and timescale to ensure we are the right fit for your project.
• Gemstone Selection: Where appropriate, we can assist with sourcing carefully selected ethically certified diamonds or coloured gemstones for your piece. In limited cases, we may also consider working with customer-supplied stones, subject to prior professional assessment and written acceptance at our discretion.

At this stage, we will discuss the likely scope of the project, expected design work and whether a Design Retainer will be required before moving into the formal design phase.

Phase 2: Design Development and Approval

• Design & Sketches: Once the design process begins, our designers prepare sketches, concepts and CAD (Computer Aided Design) visualisations to help refine and develop your commission. This collaborative stage allows proportions, details and design elements to be carefully reviewed before manufacture begins. Typical timeframe: approximately 3–10 days depending upon complexity.
• Formal Quote: Once the final design and specification are agreed, we will provide a formal quotation together with confirmation of the proposed scope of work, materials and anticipated production schedule.
• Quote Acceptance: Upon acceptance of the quotation and payment of the agreed deposit, your commission moves into production.

Phase 3: Craftsmanship & Creation

• Sourcing & Making: Your jewellery is then individually crafted by our experienced goldsmiths using the agreed precious metals and gemstones. Depending upon the design, pieces may be handmade, hand-finished or produced using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques. Typical production timeframe: approximately 2–6 weeks depending upon complexity.
• Setting & Finishing: Once complete, stones are carefully set, surfaces polished and any agreed engraving or finishing details applied.
• Hallmarking: Your jewellery is then submitted to the Assay Office for full hallmarking. Typical timeframe: typically, 3–10 working days. Hallmarking can often be carried out more quickly in appropriate cases.

Phase 4: Final Inspection & Delivery

• Quality Control: Before dispatch, every piece undergoes a final quality inspection to ensure it meets our standards of craftsmanship and finish.
• Dispatch or Collection: Your jewellery is then carefully packaged and either:
  • securely dispatched using fully insured and trackable delivery services, or
  • prepared for personal collection by prior arrangement.
• Aftercare: Our relationship with our clients does not end at delivery. We are always pleased to assist with ongoing aftercare, guidance and support to help your jewellery remain beautiful for years to come.

The Design Retainer

Creating a bespoke piece of jewellery is a collaborative process involving creative design work, technical planning and careful consideration of materials, proportions and craftsmanship.

Many commissions begin with conversations, sketches and the exploration of ideas before moving into detailed CAD design and quotation stages. Depending upon the complexity of the project, this process may involve design consultation time, gemstone sourcing, technical assessment, CAD development and multiple refinements before the final design is approved.

To begin the formal design stage, we normally request a Design Retainer.

The Design Retainer contributes towards:

• Design consultation and creative development,
• Preliminary sketches and concept work,
• CAD renderings and visualisations,
• Technical feasibility assessment,
• Gemstone and material research where applicable,
• Preparation of the formal quotation and specification.

The amount of the retainer depends upon the anticipated complexity of the commission and will be discussed with you before any chargeable work begins.

Where a commission proceeds, the remaining balance of the Design Retainer is credited against the final cost of the finished jewellery.

If you decide not to proceed after the design stage, we will provide a fair breakdown of the professional time and design work undertaken. Any unused balance of the retainer will be refunded.

For clients wishing to arrange a face-to-face consultation with one of our goldsmiths or specialist designers, meetings can usually be arranged by appointment either in Yorkshire or London, subject to availability.
