Information on Selling, Valuing, or Identifying Welsh Gold Jewellery
We deeply appreciate the unique heritage and beauty of Welsh gold, but to help manage your request as efficiently as possible, please note our current policies below.
Aur Cymru Limited, who own the welshgold.com website, buy vintage Welsh gold jewellery from time to time but only when the Welsh gold content is explicitly known to be 100%. For commercially sensitive reasons we are selective about purchasing even when the item is marked as containing 100% Welsh gold. At the present time Aur Cymru Limited has paused its purchasing programme.
If you are not in a rush to sell and would like to be included on our waiting list, please use our contact form to send us your details.
Valuations & Appraisals
We do not provide monetary appraisals, estimates or valuations for insurance or resale purchases.
If you require an official valuation you may wish to consider contacting one or more of the three professional bodies listed below. Other professional bodies dealing with jewellery valuations may exist. We are not in a position to recommend one in preference to the others.
- The Institute of Registered Valuers (IRV): Regulated by the National Association of Jewellers, members must meet strict entry criteria, follow a code of practice, and complete regular professional reviews.
- Jewellery Valuers Association (JVA): An independent organisation exclusively for professional jewellery, gemstone, and watch valuers who hold recognised gemmology and valuation credentials - https://thejva.org/
- Guild of Valuers & Jewellers (GVJ): Provides specialist valuation and registration services using qualified experts, many of whom hold membership in the IRV or JVA - https://www.gvj.org.uk/
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my piece contains Welsh gold?
The manufacturer of the jewellery should provide a certificate stating exactly what the Welsh gold content is. If they do not, then you should contact the manufacturer to obtain the necessary information. The inclusion of a Welsh Dragon mark on the piece of jewellery is not a good guide as to Welsh gold content. The jewellery offered for sale on this website (welshgold.com) states exactly what the Welsh gold content is and always comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Jewellery stated as containing 100% Welsh gold on the welshgold.com website always carries the Welsh Maiden mark which is our registered Trade Mark.
For more information on Hallmarks and Trademarks you can view our Guide to Hallmarks page or visit the Assay Office website.
