Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1. What is the first step?

A.1. Email us at hello@wildgold.co.uk giving an indication of what you are looking for. And, if at all possible, an idea of your budget as this does impact on what will be possible.

Q.2. What precious metals are available?

A.2. Welsh gold (subject to availability) in 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct. Fairmined gold in 9ct, 14ct and 18ct. Other precious metals may be available – please enquire. Please note we only use ethically-sourced gold. Any gemstones included in the design will be ethically sourced.

Q.3. Is Welsh gold available in white or rose gold in addition to its natural yellow colour?

A.3. Yes, however Welsh gold is not available in 22ct white or rose gold.

Q.4. Who will undertake the design work for me?

A.4. Where appropriate we will put you in touch with a freelance designer who is also a highly experience goldsmith. In some cases, such as wedding rings and stacking rings made to plain designs, there is usually no need to use the services of a designer – just ask us direct.

Q.5. Who do I pay for the design work?

A.5. You will pay the freelance designer for the necessary work rather than ourselves.

Q.6. How much will the designer charge me?

A.6. An initial chat by phone, Zoom, email etc is normally without charge. After that it will be up to you to agree an hourly charge rate with the designer. This will normally be around £60 per hour for the first hour (plus £15 per 15 minutes thereafter).

Q.7. Will it be possible for me to meet with the designer face to face?

A.7. This is usually possible by arrangement.

Q.8. Once the design has been settled, how quickly can the work we carried out?

A.8. Once the design has been settled we will work out a quote for your approval. To confirm your order we ask for a payment of 50% following receipt of which we will begin the process of making the item. The time required to make the item depends on its complexity. Straightforward cases will be approximately 4 to 5 weeks. For a bespoke engagement ring we recommend that you get in touch with us 3 months or so before the ring is required, in order to avoid being rushed – having said that, we once made an engagement ring for someone within 2 weeks (including the design process) but it’s not something we’d like to repeat!

Q.9. What are the least inexpensive handmade items that you can make for me?

A.9. The least expensive item in 100% Welsh gold is our 9ct Halo ring which has 1.3mm width and 1.3mm depth; it is also available in 14ct and 18ct yellow, white or rose Welsh gold. These stacking rings are very popular and, as at November 2023, the 9ct 1.3mm Halo ring 100% Welsh gold ring in size L costs £1,000 plus VAT. There is no additional charge for hammered finishes.

We look forward to making your jewellery dream come true!
